Sidney and Mercy Clist's UK Trip 1931

Sidney and Mercy Clist's UK Trip 1931

In 1931 Sidney Clist was granted 6 month's leave of absence from the NZ Police Force in order to visit, along with his wife Mercy, his parents and relatives in England. This was the only time he visited the UK after emigrating in 1910 to New Zealand. It was Mercy's only trip to England. Sidney took quite a lot of photos and compiled an album, with some photos being annotated.

Visit to Aunt Ellen Brewer
Visit to Aunt Ellen Brewer
Sidney's Aunt Ellen Brewer lived at the Higher Hunthan Farm, North Curry, Somerset. The farmhouse is an ancient listed building, with portions believed to be built in the 16th and early 18th centuries.

Will Brewer
Will Brewer
This is a photo of William Brewer, Sidney Clist's cousin, taken beside Sidney's Armstrong Siddeley car which he bought on his visit to the UK in 1931, and subsequently shipped it to New Zealand. This car would have been an up-market 1920s model, distinguished by its rear-hinged rear doors. I should think Will Brewer would have been doing the farming for his mother Ellen, as Sidney does not mention Ellen's husband Henry Brewer, whom I presume was deceased.
